The Rallying Cry
Healing the Hardest Parts of Life through Creativity
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Inspiring and humane, a beautiful book which I'd recommend to anyone
“I've recommended this book to so many people! It manages to be several things at once: powerful life writing, a compendium of collected wisdom on creativity as a way through loss, a self-help book and guidance on photography and other creative practices. Perhaps the reason I truly loved it though was the corageous way that the author shares her story with us, while also letting us know from her own example that sometimes we have to hold that back til we're ready. I find some self-help books a bit preachy, but there's a lot of humanity and humility here that made me want to lean in and hear more. I hope we'll be hearing lots more from Suzie Jay Goldsmith.”
What’s it about?
The Rallying Cry empowers mothers to embrace creative self-care not in spite of their struggles, but because of them.
Using her own personal disappointments, grief and heartbreak to look outward and find some catharsis, Suzie Jay Goldsmith writes to reassure others who are bewildered, rudderless and hurting, that they are not alone.
Through the lens of TFMR and parenting after loss, her words are filled with truth, humanity, hope and healing. A transformative journey that is both honest and inspiring, this book offers creative ways to lean into the hardest parts of our lives with courage and heart.
Weaving in storytelling, insight and gentle guidance, this rallying cry is for anyone who needs it.

A beauty of a book - an exploration of creativity, its practice and its benefits
“Suzie carries you away on a wave of creativity and its importance - she takes a difficult concept and makes it tangible, accessible and suggests how to practice it regularly. She reminds you that creativity is not a far flung destination but is found in the everyday pockets of life. Her approach to creativity as a mindful practice resonates deeply - as this is something that helped throughout lockdown.
Creativity, depending on how you wish to use it, can be a form of self-care, reminding you to take a step back, even for a moment and to quieten the noise. Suzie’s journey in creativity is a very personal one however her teaching is applicable to anyone.
This book will remain on bedside table so I can dip into as and when, for inspiration, encouragement and a reminder to let go.
Absolutely recommend, either as an exploration of creativity or as a route to self-care.”

The book I’ve been waiting for
“Suzie’s words are magical. They heal and fill you up all at the same time. I’ve never felt more seen or heard. And I’ve never felt more encouraged! I’m determined to shape my days in a better way now and let go of this mum guilt. This is the book that every mother needs to read.”

Life-affirming... like a good film you want to re-watch as soon as the credits roll
“This is a beautiful book. Suzie writes so simply and eloquently, not just about TFMR, but about wider themes of grief and loss that are recognisable to everyone,
On first glance, it’s a book about grief and moving forwards. But it’s so very much more than that too. The Rallying Cry is about identity, about finding balance, about learning the (difficult) art of letting your experiences shape you but not define you. It’s about sitting with discomfort, and looking for and embracing ways to exist with it, alongside it. It’s encouraging, and hopeful, and I know I’ll come back to it again and again when I need to feel seen.
What Suzie has to say is powerful, valuable, and needed more than ever.”

A call to a creative life that's impossible to ignore
Every so often you read a book which really will change the fabric of your next day. I am half way through my second reading and it's tricky not to race through and devour her words.
Suzie's words are calming, reassuring and soothing. It comes as no surprise to read about her experiences as a teacher- it feels very much like she is coaching and mentoring you through each page. At the same time, this book really is a call to action. It would be impossible not to be inspired by the words in this book. To start something new. To carve out more time for yourself. To reassess. To regroup. To notice the light around you. To change direction. To pick up the camera. There’s a real skill in speaking to a reader, but Suzie makes the creative process feel effortless. You can’t help but want to be on her team. Her words finish and there’s ample room for the reader to pick up the creative baton and run.
Suzie writes about her experiences of grief and loss but make no mistake that this is a book full of life, light and growth. A genuinely empowering read. Gift yourself this book.
